As a whiskey collector and connoisseur, I haven’t really ever taken the time to get into cocktails, that is, until this past year.
My wife and I started taking an interest in cocktails, and my curiosity got the best of me. Instead of focusing on mastering the classics like the Manhattan or an Old Fashioned, I started working on my own recipes for CBD cocktails.
If a cocktail calls for three different alcohols, two kinds of bitters, and the juice of some rare fruit, I’m out.
I like simple cocktails, for a few reasons, one of the major ones being the cost. If a cocktail calls for three different alcohols, two kinds of bitters, and the juice of some rare fruit, I’m out. Instead, I like to take a good whiskey, some fresh juice, and maybe one or two small ingredients to make my own.
A must-have ingredient for us these days? CBD oil.
And this CBD cocktail, the Blood Orange and Whiskey with CBD, has it in spades.
CBD Cocktail: The Blood Orange and Whiskey
Ingredients
- 2 oz whiskey (a good Bottled in Bond Bourbon such as Evan Williams or Jim Beam Bonded is my choice)
- 2 oz fresh squeezed blood orange juice (or bottled if you can’t find fresh)
- .5 oz fresh squeezed lemon juice
- 25 mg CBD Oil
- lemon peel and a lemon wedge for garnish
Instructions
This drink is simple. Squeeze your fruit juices into containers, making sure you strain out any solids or seeds that may make it into the juice.
Then pour each ingredient over a rocks glass filled with ice (we find having a good double jigger makes this part easy). Drop in your CBD oil and stir until combined. The fresh blood orange and lemon juice will create a nice foaming head on the cocktail if stirred vigorously enough.
Garnish and serve.
