Uses: The main chemical constituent in Catnip is terpenoid nepetalactone and can be extracted by steam distillation. It is cultivated as an ornamental plant for use in gardens. Catnip has historically been used as a headache reliever, fever reducer and decongestant. It is used more recently as a repellent for certain insects. Mosquitoes, flies, cockroaches and termites.
Research has found that the nepetalactone, the chemical constituent in catnip was about ten times more effective at repelling mosquitoes than DEET.
Blends well with: Grapefruit, lavandin, lavender, lemon, marjoram, orange, rosemary and other mints.
Cautions: Generally safe for adults. Do Not Use if pregnant as it stimulates uterine contractions.
